› Bosnia and
Herzegovina has the long tradition in organizing of the associations of craftsmen,
merchants and other business subjects. During the history, we have passed the same way as
most of the European countries. The chambers have been founded as public-legal
associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina 100 years ago. In 1909, on the basis of Austrian
laws and organizing, the Trade and Crafts Chamber was constituted in Sarajevo. The
Chambers of Trade and Industry were founded first in Sarajevo (1925) and than in Banja
Luka (1928). In 1931, passing the Law on handicraft stores of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia,
two Crafts Chambers were founded in Sarajevo and Banja Luka. The Chambers had the Congress
session once in a year in order to discuss the common interests of the economy.› After the Second World War, the Crafts
Chambers of the cantons and the republics (federal units of Yugoslavia) were founded in
1949. In 1953, the Sector Specific Chambers for particular sectors as trade, catering,
handicraft trade, agriculture, forestry and transport were constituted in the cantons and
the republics of former Yugoslavia.
› In 1962, according to Law on uniting of the chambers in B&H, the
Chamber of Economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the seat in Sarajevo was founded as well
as the regional chambers of: Sarajevo, Bihaæ, Banja Luka, Doboj, Mostar, Tuzla and
Zenica. The additional laws and regulations regarding chambers in Bosnia and Herzegovina
have been leading toward establishing of the general chamber.
› After signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement on November 21, 1995, which
terminated the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Chambers system had to be harmonized
with the new Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
› During 1998/99, transforming prewar regional or founding the new chambers,
the cantonal chambers were constituted at the territory of the BH Federation. The
Constitutive Assembly of the Chamber of Economy of FB&H was held in Sarajevo on
November 16, 1999. The chambers in Federation of B&H have the qualification of legal
persons and wide range of competence in representing and promoting of the economy at the
territory of the BH Federation.
