Meeting held with Mr. Ahmed Hamzić, General Director of Nova Željezara Zenica, the new owner of the ArcelorMittal plant in Zenica

Today, a constructive meeting was held at the premises of Nova Željezara Zenica with the President of the Chamber of Economy/Commerce of the Federation of BiH, Mr. Mirsad Jašarspahić.

The Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH is recognized as a key partner in creating a new strategy for the development of the metal industry, improving technological processes, and protecting domestic production. The meeting particularly considered initiatives related to the adoption of the Regulation on technical requirements for reinforcing steel for concrete, as well as measures to protect domestic production from excessive imports and uncontrolled exports of key raw materials.

It was jointly emphasized that these initiatives are of strategic importance for ensuring the economic and social stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as they enable equal treatment of domestic producers and guarantee the quality and safety of products on the market.

The Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH has already submitted the Draft Regulation on technical requirements for reinforcing steel for concrete to the relevant institutions – the Council of Ministers of BiH, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, and the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH – emphasizing the importance of its adoption as soon as possible.

“Nova Željezara Zenica strongly supports this initiative and is ready to actively participate in all working groups and expert discussions, in order to establish a regulatory framework that will ensure the competitiveness, safety, and sustainability of the steel industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We believe that synergy between the real sector, the chamber system, and institutions can create a solid foundation for the sustainable economic development of the country,” it was stated at the meeting.
