Strategy for the development of the textile, clothing, leather and footwear industry for the period 2024 – 2033

The Chamber of Economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina informs business entities from the textile, clothing, leather, and footwear (TOKO) sector that the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH has adopted the Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry for the period 2024–2033.

The textile industry faces numerous challenges, including outdated production technologies, low added value of products, a shortage of skilled labor, growing environmental requirements, and competition in the international market. These problems threaten the long-term sustainability of the sector and require a strategic approach to ensure its survival and development.

The Government of the Federation of BiH adopted a Decision on drafting this strategic document on 24/08/2023 and assigned the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry (FMERI) as the lead institution, with support from the United Nations Development Programme in BiH (UNDP) and in cooperation with the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH. The document was prepared in accordance with the Regulation on the Preparation of Strategic Documents, taking into account the development policies of the Federation of BiH and the standards of the European Union.

The adopted strategy brings key measures for the modernization and transformation of the sector through the improvement of technological processes and production digitalization, the application of circular economy principles to reduce waste and environmental footprint, strengthening innovation and the competitiveness of domestic companies in the international market, and creating a more favorable business environment and new jobs.

This document lays the foundations for a sustainable future of the textile industry in the Federation of BiH, and its implementation requires cooperation among all key stakeholders – business entities, institutions, and international partners.

The Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH thanks FMERI, UNDP, and all members of the Working Group for their dedicated work in preparing this strategic document. The adoption of the strategy represents a significant step toward the transformation of the TOKO sector, the creation of new opportunities, and the strengthening of the competitiveness of the BiH economy.
