At the 16th session of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, held on 04/03/2025, the Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry for the period 2024–2033 was adopted.
The textile industry faces numerous challenges, including outdated production technologies, low added value of products, a shortage of skilled labor, growing environmental requirements and competition in the international market. These problems threaten the long-term sustainability of the sector and require a strategic approach to ensure its survival and development.
The adopted strategy brings key measures for the modernization and transformation of the sector through the improvement of technological processes and digitalization of production, the application of circular economy principles to reduce waste and environmental footprint, strengthening innovation and the competitiveness of domestic companies in the international market, and creating a more favorable business environment and new jobs.
The textile and leather-processing industry has been going through numerous difficulties and challenges for many years, and we can say that the current situation is not satisfactory. If we look at foreign trade data, a decline in exports and imports has been recorded, which has consequently led to a decrease in the number of employees in the sector. The Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry in the Federation of BiH is being adopted at the right time to lay the foundations for a sustainable future of the textile industry in the Federation of BiH.
The Strategy was prepared by the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry (FMERI), in cooperation with the Chamber of Economy/Commerce of the Federation of BiH, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme in BiH (UNDP). The document was prepared in accordance with the Regulation on the Preparation of Strategic Documents, taking into account the development policies of the Federation of BiH and the standards of the European Union.
The implementation of sustainable, new models based on the principles of the circular economy,
with the aim of strengthening competitiveness and creating new opportunities, requires cooperation among all key stakeholders – businesses, institutions and international partners.
The Chamber of Economy/Commerce of the Federation of BiH thanks the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry,
the United Nations Development Programme in BiH (UNDP) for their dedicated work in preparing this strategic document, which will also serve as a guideline for the implementation of all future activities and initiatives of the Chamber of Economy/Commerce of the Federation of BiH aimed at the TOKO sector.
