SECOND EDITION OF THE TWO-DAY CONFERENCE “WASTE-RESOURCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN BiH” HELD

In order for Bosnia and Herzegovina to make a significant step toward a more sustainable business model,
a transition to a circular economy is necessary. The circularity model offers a great opportunity for the development of the BiH
business climate, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.

For this reason, last week the second edition of the conference “WASTE-RESOURCE for the development
of the circular economy in BiH” was held, organized by the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH and
the consulting company nLogic Advisory, which brought together decision-makers at all levels,
experts, entrepreneurs, financiers, public utility companies, representatives of the non-governmental
sector and the media.

Participants in the panel discussion discussed the possibilities, good practices, evident
obstacles and the ways in which they are overcome in order to accelerate the transition and adoption
of circular economy practices and models in existing industries and new enterprises.
It was also emphasized that cooperation between the academic community, innovators and the private
sector is needed in order to create new economic value that has as little or a neutral
impact on the environment and social development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“In the circular economy, the goal is to return materials from products at the end of their life cycle to a new
product. In our case, that is raw carbon black, which is obtained from car tires at the
end of their life cycle, and the new product, regenerated carbon black, is obtained in a self-sustaining and completely environmentally safe way. Specifically, we are contributing to solving the problem of landfills
of car tires, as well as landfills of contaminated carbon black, which together cause incalculable
environmental damage, and we provide a product whose further use additionally reduces CO2 emissions,” said
one of the participants, Hanadi Džabić, general director of RCB Nanotehnologija.

In addition to new economic opportunities, the circular economy also brings environmental sustainability,
contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and opening new green jobs.
