The Green Building Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Green Building Council BiH – GBC BiH), in partnership with the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Chamber of Engineers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized an info session on DGNB green certification in construction, one of the leading international sustainable building systems aligned with EU standards and directives.
The DGNB system was presented by Dr. Sanela Klarić, an expert in DGNB green certification. The info session brought together representatives of construction companies, research institutions and civil society organizations, who had the opportunity to learn about the concrete benefits of applying this system in practice.
The Green Building Council BiH recently signed a strategic agreement with the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen), making GBC BiH the official holder of the DGNB certification system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through this partnership, Bosnia and Herzegovina is being positioned on the European map of sustainable construction, with the application of international standards adapted to local conditions.
The DGNB system is based on a holistic approach that assesses the environmental, economic and socio-cultural aspects, as well as the technical and process quality of buildings throughout their entire life cycle. It is precisely this approach that makes the DGNB certificate a relevant tool for the modern development of the construction sector.
For the business sector, DGNB certification brings a number of concrete benefits, including strengthening the corporate image and meeting ESG goals, greater competitiveness and access to new markets and investors, lower operating costs, easier access to green loans and financial instruments, as well as increased market value of real estate.
During the discussion, participants emphasized that DGNB green certification represents an important opportunity for networking, strengthening the capacities of domestic experts and developing sustainable and responsible construction in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Participants were informed about planned training for DGNB certifiers, membership opportunities, and green certification measures and criteria.
“Only through joint action by institutions, companies, investors, the financial sector, the academic community and non-governmental organizations can we make sustainable construction a standard practice – healthier for people, more responsible toward the environment and more profitable for society as a whole,” it was said at the event.
German partners provide expert support and transfer best European practices, contributing to the European integration process of Bosnia and Herzegovina and creating the foundations for long-term sustainable and responsible development, in the interest of present and future generations.
