The first public debate on the Draft Law on Gas of the Federation of BiH held at the Chamber of Economy of FBiH in Sarajevo

At the premises of the Chamber of Economy of FBiH in Sarajevo on 2.7.2025, the first of ten public debates on the Draft Law on Gas of the Federation of BiH was held.

After the House of Representatives and the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH considered and accepted the Draft Law on Gas of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Government of the Federation of BiH, i.e. the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, was tasked with conducting a public debate. Acting in accordance with the conclusions, and with the aim of preparing the highest quality text of the Draft Law on Gas of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and involving all interested parties more broadly, the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, in cooperation with the Chamber of Economy of FBiH, organized the public debate.

The public debate attracted a large number of participants from various sectors – experts, representatives of institutions, companies, the academic community and citizens. The debate took place in a dynamic atmosphere, with active participation and constructive proposals, which clarified many of the current dilemmas and recorded important suggestions.

This is a key document that lays the foundations for the development of a safe, competitive and harmonized gas sector, in line with modern European practices and the energy transition. Minister Vedran Lakić emphasized the importance of involving all interested parties so that the proposals and opinions of experts and citizens can be heard, in order for the law to ultimately be as well prepared as possible. Vice President of P/G K FBiH Mirsad Jašarspahić pointed out the importance of the Gas Law for the Federation of BiH and the development of its economy, and called on all interested parties to submit their proposals and opinions on the Draft Law on Gas of the Federation of BiH through the Chamber.

The Draft Law provides for:

  • Development of modern gas infrastructure,
  • Supply stability,
  • Clear rules for all market participants,
  • Compliance with European practices and the goals of the energy transition.

After the debate, BH-Gas presented key infrastructure projects of gas infrastructure in the Federation of BiH that will further strengthen connectivity with neighboring markets, contribute to safer supply and accelerate the energy transition.

Minister Lakić announced the continuation of public debates throughout FBiH, emphasizing the importance of involving as wide a circle of stakeholders as possible.
