As required by EU directives and documents such as the EU Green Deal for achieving climate neutrality, the UN SDG goals, the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, and the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles (eng. “EU strategy for sustainable and circular textiles”), adopted in March 2022 by the European Commission, the textile and leather-processing industry sector will certainly undergo certain changes in the coming years.
The Chamber of Commerce of the FBiH previously submitted an initiative to the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry – FMERI for the preparation of a new strategic document that will be aligned with the aforementioned documents as well as the strategic development documents of the Federation of BiH in order to define certain guidelines and recommendations for the further development of this sector.
At the initiative of the competent ministry, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted a Decision to draft the Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry in the FBiH for the period 2024-2033, with FMERI as the lead institution in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of the FBiH.
In line with this, and at the proposal of the competent ministry, at its 12th session held on 31 August 2023, the Government of the Federation of BiH appointed a Working Group to draft the Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry in the FBiH for the period 2024-2033, consisting of representatives of the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, the Chamber of Commerce of the FBiH, the Federal Ministry of Development, Entrepreneurship and Crafts, the Federal Institute for Development Programming, the Employers’ Association of the FBiH, and UNDP.
At its 13th session held on 7 September 2023, the Government of the FBiH also adopted the Final Report on the implementation of the “Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry in the Federation of BiH” for the period 2013-2023, and stated that this document had been implemented and had served as a strategic document according to which the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry worked on solving problems in this industrial branch. This report was submitted to the Parliament of the FBiH for information.
The Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of BiH and the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry were the lead institutions in drafting the “Strategy for the Development of the Textile, Clothing, Leather and Footwear Industry in the Federation of BiH” for the period 2013-2023, as well as the accompanying Action Plans based on which they were also implementers of certain activities during that period.
