EU4ENERGY, SECW partner, recognizes the importance of the dynamics of electricity market development in the region and electromobility

Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week begins next week and brings with it all the important and current topics in the field of energy and climate, with the aim of encouraging discussion among experts, decision-makers and other key stakeholders.

To the great satisfaction of SECW organizers, the partnership with EU4Energy, a project funded by the European Union, is becoming a tradition. EU4Energy is an extremely important SECW partner given that its activities focus on challenges, strategies and solutions regarding energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

At this year’s conference, EU4Energy has taken on the role of organizer of a panel discussion on the topic “Barriers and incentives in the development of electromobility”, and the discussion will cover issues related to the construction of infrastructure for charging electric cars, including the insufficient network of charging stations, as well as issues related to the lack of an adequate regulatory framework, in light of the recent analysis carried out through the EU-funded EU4Energy project.

The aim of the panel is to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between decision-makers, experts and industry representatives, all with the intention of identifying solutions that will enable faster development of electromobility in line with the goals of the European Union and the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). Through constructive discussion, the panel aims to contribute to the decarbonization of the transport sector and the implementation of sustainable energy solutions that will meet the needs of society and protect the environment.

Representatives of Porsche BH d.o.o. will also take part in the said panel discussion. Namely, Porsche BH is a company that actively contributes to the development of electromobility in BiH, having installed over 200 electric chargers across the country. More than 70% of the installed fast (DC) chargers in BiH were installed by the Moon Power brand. Moon Power Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a valued member of the Porsche family, is making significant progress in developing electromobility infrastructure in BiH. The goal is to enable electric vehicle travel to be carefree and comfortable, with minimal charging downtime.

As EU4Energy is a leader in electricity projects, it is also the organizer of a very important panel discussion titled “Dynamics of the development of the electricity market in the region”. The panel focuses on key aspects of adapting to EU regulations and trends in the electricity market. The discussion will also cover the importance of adopting the Law on the Regulator, Transmission and Electricity Market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its implementation and the process of establishing an electricity exchange, as well as the formation of an organized electricity market for day-ahead and intraday trading.

Special attention will be given to the nomination of the Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO), interconnection with neighboring electricity markets, which will enable easier integration and reduce potential costs, including avoiding CBAM taxes on electricity. The panel will also explore the possibilities of connecting with existing exchanges such as NORD POOL and BSP-Southpool, analyze the impact on the trade of utilities and other electricity market participants, and explore the benefits this process will bring to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The panel will communicate recommendations on establishing an electricity exchange in BiH from the study prepared by the EU-funded project “EU4Energy” in cooperation with NORD POOL, and provide guidelines for creating an efficient and sustainable electricity market that would improve the energy security and competitiveness of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as countries in the region within the European regional market.

As an EU4Energy partner, as well as a SECW partner, representatives of NORD POOL are also with us this year.

NORD POOL, the European electricity market, enables efficient, simple and secure trading across Europe. The company, majority-owned by Euronext, offers day-ahead and intraday trading, clearing and settlement, data services, consulting, as well as knowledge exchange through the Nord Pool Academy, available to customers regardless of size or location. Today, more than 400 companies from 20 countries trade on Nord Pool markets. Nord Pool operates markets in the Nordic and Baltic countries, Germany, Poland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom. Nord Pool is the designated electricity market operator (NEMO) in 16 European countries, while also providing services to electricity markets in Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Iceland and Romania. More than three decades of Nord Pool’s experience in the electricity market is based on deep expertise in market design and is founded on offering flexibility, transparency, innovation, greater choice and participation for our clients.
