The traditional Montenegro 2023 Economy Conference, organized by the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, is being held on 11 and 12 October at the Splendid Hotel, under the theme “Economic Horizon of the Region”.
It is one of the most important economic gatherings and events in the Western Balkans, attended by representatives of the business and academic communities of Montenegro and the region, as well as economic experts from international institutions.
The conference includes five panels: “The Crisis Continues”, “Green Transition in the EU and the Western Balkans – de iure and de facto”, “Policy Makers, Can We Hear Each Other?”, “Innovations: Take the Idea”, and “Sustainability of European Integration and EU Membership Perspectives”, and during its duration bilateral meetings of regional businesspeople are organized, which is an opportunity to establish cooperation on concrete business arrangements.
The event was opened by the President of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, Dr Nina Drakić, and the Director of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry Eurochambres, Ben Butters.
– I believe we should seize the opportunity that is before us, by creating an environment that will be stimulating and predictable, which will also lead to greater investment in infrastructure. I believe that the leaders of our countries, at the upcoming Summit, will clearly convey such a message to their partners from the EU – said Drakić.
Ben Butters, Director of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry Eurochambres, stated in his welcome address that the Chamber Conference is taking place at a time when EU enlargement is probably most prominently positioned on the Brussels agenda in the last two decades.
– Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the enlargement process has gained new momentum, both for this country and for the candidate countries from the Western Balkans, including Montenegro. The European Union will adopt an enlargement strategy in a few weeks, and there are signals that this will allow accession processes to move forward after years of stagnation – said Butters.
