On the last day, the discussion focused on innovations in the heating and cooling sector
(Sarajevo, 29 September 2023) The last day of the “Sarajevo Energy and Climate
Week” was held at the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Chamber of Economy, and
discussions focused on innovations in the heating and cooling sector, the implementation of energy
efficiency in building insulation, and the implementation of building renovation strategies,
especially in the civil sector.
“We have reached a demanding challenge regarding the implementation of energy efficiency.
As the competent ministry, we recognized the need for energy savings. We adopted
a rulebook on the air conditioning and heating system within our ministry, and we want to
point out to others the importance of adopting such rulebooks”, explained Aida Jelinić
from the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mining of the Federation of BiH.
“We have a continuous problem of how to finance energy efficiency measures, and
this needs to be fully defined in order to create the conditions for the energy transition.
Also, in addition to the competent ministries for energy, such projects need to be
implemented in close cooperation with ministries for environmental protection”, explained Boris
Lubarda, Ministry of Energy and Mining of the RS
The plan is that by 2050, the strategy for the renovation and insulation of collective housing
buildings in BiH will be fully implemented, all as part of the overall energy transition process that
Bosnia and Herzegovina must go through in the coming decades.
“We are also actively involved in activities for implementing obligatory energy efficiency
schemes, and we see the importance of implementing this project”, said Sanja
Kapetina, head of the Department for Secondary Energy in the Energy Sector at the Ministry
of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.
“We have currently received 13 million euros from the EU for the implementation of this project on 1200
residential buildings. There we will best see what challenges lie ahead of us, but also what
the benefit of implementing the project of insulating residential buildings and the impact on energy
savings is”, explained Jasmina Kafedžić, head of the Department for Energy Efficiency at the
Environmental Protection Fund.
Organized by the Federation of BiH Chamber of Economy and numerous domestic and international
partners and institutions, the first “Sarajevo Energy Climate Week SECW2023” gathered
over 1000 experts from all over the world, and over 200 panelists who explained all
segments of the complete energy transition in BiH, which needs to be fully implemented by
2050.
“This week is a very important foundation for all decision-makers at all levels of
government, which greatly contributes to the development of the energy sector, but also of all
other sectors such as tourism, economy and construction”, emphasized Mirsad Jašarspahić,
Vice President of the Federation of BiH Chamber of Economy.
“We covered all important topics related to the processes of
energy transition, from the economic to the environmental and
infrastructural aspect, and explained all the steps so that we can successfully and in the right way
achieve our goal by 2050”, said Nihad Harbaš, director of nLogic.
“I sincerely thank all the participants who responded, the panelists, guests, but also
our partners, sponsors and embassies who presented their ideas during
the week at the Hills Hotel, Energoinvest and the Federation of BiH Chamber of Economy, within
the official panels as well as numerous accompanying events. We started with a ceremonial reception in the City Hall, and today
with the final panel discussion we are ending the first Sarajevo Energy and Climate
Week”, said Amra Šurković, project manager of SECW.
Connecting energy experts with competent ministries at all levels of government as well as with foreign funds and investors for the implementation of the energy transition project in BiH is the key task of the held “Sarajevo Energy and Climate
Week”.
“It is extremely important to actively work on the exchange of opinions, knowledge and experience with
all interested parties, it is necessary to make complete reforms in the field of energy,
starting from education to training staff, but I believe that we have the will and potential to
carry out all items to the end”, said Azrudin Husika, member of the SECW Board.
