At the International Plastic and Rubber Industry Fair, held in Milan (Italy) from 05 to 08.09. this year, the regular annual meeting of the Advisory Committee for the Mediterranean was held within the PlasticEurope organization. Through its members, this body continuously works on research and making proposals to the competent institutions in the home countries.
At this meeting, among other things, the roles of mechanical and chemical recycling in achieving global environmental protection goals as well as the changes brought by the latest EU legislation were considered.
Mirsad Jašarspahić, Vice President of the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH, as an active member of this body, presented the Chamber’s activities in the relevant areas in the previous period at this year’s committee meeting.
The committee members were presented with the advantages of the established Extended Producer Responsibility System through the Operators of the System for packaging and electronic waste, through the achieved results of the operators and the fulfillment of goals in the period from 2012 to 2022 in the Federation of BiH, whereby the Operator System in waste management was assessed as an example of good practice.
In addition, the activities carried out by the Chamber through projects related to the Adriatic-Ionian region were presented. As a special and unique example of good practice, Vice President Jašarspahić presented the first industrial plant for obtaining high-quality Carbon Black at the company RCB Nanotechnologies in Vogošća (Bosnia and Herzegovina), which is then fully returned and reused in the tire industry, various rubber products and the polymer industry.
This example creates opportunities for the introduction of worn-out tires into the circular economy to create a high-value industrial material, while at the same time supporting the goals of reducing waste landfills and the EU goals related to carbon neutrality.
In this way, the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH continues to be a proactive and recognized member of all bodies and institutions in which it operates.
