Presentation on Eco-Industrial Parks Held at the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of BiH with a Focus on International Standards and Positive Examples from Practice

In the packed hall of the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a presentation dedicated to eco-industrial parks was held, bringing together a large number of representatives of the business community, institutions, and experts. This highly attended and substantive presentation was an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience about one of the key tools for sustainable industrial development.

The presentation covered the most important components and concepts related to the international framework for eco-industrial parks, including recommendations and guidelines from UNIDO, the World Bank, and other relevant institutions that promote sustainable industrial policy. Special focus was placed on the key characteristics of eco-industrial parks, which include efficient resource management, reducing negative environmental impact, cooperation between enterprises, and the active role of the local community and public institutions.

Frameworks for describing and managing eco-industrial parks were also presented, serving as a guide for the development, evaluation, and improvement of existing and future industrial zones in line with sustainability principles.

Those present had the opportunity to hear numerous examples of good practice from around the world, where eco-industrial parks contributed to economic revitalization, the creation of new jobs, and the reduction of pollution. As a particularly inspiring regional example, Mind Park in Kragujevac (Serbia) was highlighted – a modern industrial complex that successfully integrates the principles of sustainability, efficient waste and energy management, as well as cooperation between companies from different sectors.

The presentation concluded with an interactive discussion, during which participants emphasized the need for stronger institutional support in developing similar initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the importance of connecting with international networks and funds supporting green industry. The organizers expressed satisfaction with the strong interest and announced the continuation of activities to promote the concept of eco-industrial parks in BiH, with special emphasis on education, pilot projects, and regional cooperation. The presentation was implemented by IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, with financial support from the European Union and in accordance with the Western Balkan Investment Framework (WBIF).
