The Association of System Operators operating within the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH organized the second workshop in Neum from 12 to 14 October 2023, titled “Implementation of the Rulebook on Packaging and Packaging Waste Management, and the Rulebook on Management of Waste from Electrical and Electronic Products by key entities of their implementation: goals, results, challenges and proposals for overcoming challenges”.
The workshop brought together all relevant stakeholders responsible for implementing the mentioned rulebooks in order to exchange key information on achieved results, challenges and future goals.
The Vice President of the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Mirsad Jašarspahić, opened the workshop, emphasizing the importance of holding the workshop and constructive dialogue aimed not only at summarizing achieved results, but also at planning future activities that BiH must follow on the path of decarbonization and waste reduction.
Of exceptional importance was the presence of the Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism, Ms. Nasiha Pozder, who praised the achievements of the system operators so far and expressed interest in jointly resolving challenges in the development of the packaging and electrical waste recycling system.
The workshop was also attended by advisers to the Federal Minister, expert associates of the ministry, representatives of the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, market and environmental inspectors of the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs.
Representatives of the Association of System Operators, consisting of Ekopak d.o.o. Sarajevo and Eko život d.o.o. Tuzla, packaging waste management operators, and Zeos Eko sistem d.o.o. Sarajevo and Kim Tec Eko d.o.o. Vitez, operators for the management of electrical and electronic waste, presented their activities in detail, with particular emphasis on the achieved goals according to the Rulebook. These goals include achieving certain percentages of recycled waste, investing in infrastructure, and implementing projects aimed at raising awareness among the youngest citizens and the general population. Representatives of key institutions also presented information about their achievements during their presentations.
In conclusion, the challenges of all stakeholders were summarized, with emphasis on the need to hold similar gatherings, conferences and round tables in order to improve joint dialogue in overcoming challenges.
