Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week begins on Monday

SARAJEVO, 22 September (FENA) – From 25 to 29 September, Sarajevo will host the
“Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week” (SECW 2023) with the aim of accelerating and directing
the energy transition, presenting adequate solutions to the challenges of climate change and ways
of implementing reforms in the energy sector towards renewable energy sources and energy
efficiency.

The Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH, in cooperation with partners and under the patronage of the Ministry
of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, the Vice President of the Federation of BiH Igor Stojanović,
federal ministries of energy, mining and industry, environment and tourism, the Ministry of Economy
of the Sarajevo Canton, the cities of Sarajevo and Mostar and the Brčko District of BiH, is organizing this international event.

Participation of more than 200 panelists and more than 1,000 participants from all parts of the world is expected.

Bosnia and Herzegovina faces important decisions about the future of the energy sector,
respecting the importance of climate change, that is, the goals of climate neutrality and
decarbonization of the energy sector of BiH by 2050. Sarajevo, as the capital of Bosnia and
Herzegovina, has committed to achieving climate neutrality, contributing to BiH in achieving
that goal, and has joined international projects for the development and implementation of concrete steps in that
direction.

On the first day of the “Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week” on Monday, 25 September, the
current process of energy transition in BiH will be analyzed with experts from BiH and specialists from
all parts of the world within workshops held by the International Renewable Energy
Agency (IRENA) and the Secretariat for the Transition of Coal-Rich Regions from Brussels.

The central event of SECW is the International Conference “Energy transition – the path to a new
energy and climate future of the region” which will be held on 26 and 27 September.

The focus of the first day of the conference is a just transition of coal-rich regions, strategic goals towards
decarbonization, multi-level governance coordination for climate change mitigation. The second day of the conference will focus on financing decarbonization through market
mechanisms, and finding a path to a climate-neutral future for the region. Through panels, the process of developing a circular economy, the use of renewable energy sources
and their production in the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as the development of electromobility in the region, will be presented in detail.

On Thursday, 28 September, at Energoinvest there will be an event dedicated to Emerik Blum, the founder of
Energoinvest, within which panels dedicated to environmental protection in decarbonization projects,
the development of transmission and distribution networks for the integration of renewable energy
sources, and the development of new technologies with a focus on innovative methods will be held.

SECW 2023 will end on Friday, 29 September at the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH with discussions on
energy efficiency and innovations in district heating and cooling, after which a final press conference will also be held.

The Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week is programmatically and financially supported by
partner countries Czech Republic and Norway, the British and Swedish embassies in BiH, the World Energy
Council, the Government of the United States USAID EPA Project, UNDP, GIZ, UNECE,
IRENA, EBRD, the World Bank, the EU4Energy project, SEI, PIN, FIC, EPBiH, EPHZHB, as well as
Procredit and NLB banks, and the cement plants Lukavac and Kakanj.
