At the initiative of the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the New Steelworks Zenica, a coordination meeting of representatives of key institutions and industrial entities was held in Zenica on 26 December 2025. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of BiH led by President Mirsad Jašarspahić, representatives of the New Steelworks Zenica headed by Director Ahmed Hamzić, Director of the Federal Directorate for Defense Industry Zlatan Bilanović, President of the Federation of BiH Defense Industry Association Adnan Prevljak, the management of the “Kemal Kapetanović” Institute led by Prof. Dr. Alaudin Brkić and Prof. Dr. Omer Beganović, as well as representatives of companies from the defense and metal industries.
The key objective of the meeting was to strengthen the network of domestic industrial capacities and reduce dependence on imports through stronger strategic linking of the economy, the scientific-research sector and competent institutions. Participants particularly emphasized the importance of positioning Zenica as a center for the production of high-quality and special steels that are of key importance for domestic and regional industry.
Among the main topics was the possibility of revitalizing the Forge, whose restart would enable the production of complex metal components that are currently in short supply on the market. At the same time, possibilities for production on the new rolling line, which would operate in accordance with the strictest European standards, were also considered. The implementation of these activities would enable the New Steelworks Zenica to position itself as a competitive producer of high-value products for the demanding European Union market.
The participants agreed on the need to establish continuous exchange of information between domestic companies from the metal and defense industries and the New Steelworks Zenica, in order to enable efficient planning of short-term and long-term production of materials necessary for the markets of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
